POWERFUL NOVENA TO THE PRECIOUS BLOOD OF JESUS: DAY 2

INTRODUCTION: The veneration of the Precious Blood of Our Divine Saviour dates back to the time of the Passion when it was shed. It is rooted in the fundamental doctrine of the Incarnation, which teaches that the Second Person of the Blessed Trinity assumed a human nature, uniting it with His divine nature in what is known as the hypostatic union. Thus, every aspect of Christ’s human nature, including His Precious Blood, is inseparably united with the second divine Person. Consequently, the Precious Blood is worthy of the same adoration, known as Latria, that is given to God Himself. This devotion to the Precious Blood is not reliant on private revelations but finds its firm foundation in the deposit of the Faith. Moving into more recent times, St. Gaspar Buffalo, the founder of the Congregation of the Precious Blood of Jesus Christ, played a significant role in promoting devotion to the Precious Blood. During Pope Pius IX’s exile from Rome in 1849, his companion, Don Giovanni Merlini, the third general of the Congregation, suggested that if the Pope were to regain the papal territory, he should make a vow to extend the Feast of the Precious Blood to the entire Church. This Feast had already been celebrated by the Fathers of the Most Precious Blood on the Friday after the Fourth Sunday of Lent. Ultimately, it was Pope Pius IX who officially instituted a special feast in honor of the Precious Blood. Later, Pope St. Pius X moved the feast from the first Sunday of July to July 1st. Finally, in commemoration of the 19th centennial of the mystery of the Redemption, Pope Pius XI elevated the rank of the feast day. This highlights the enduring significance and importance of devotion to the Precious Blood throughout the history of the Church.

Day 2

Opening Prayer: Eternal Father, we continue this Novena, seeking to immerse ourselves in the mystery of Your Son’s Precious Blood. On this second day, we come before You with hearts filled with gratitude for the gift of redemption through His sacrifice (State your intentions). Help us to deepen our understanding of the significance of His Precious Blood shed for us. Through the intercession of the Blessed Virgin Mary and all the saints, may we draw closer to the source of our salvation and find solace and strength in the Precious Blood of Jesus. Amen.

Scriptural Reading/Meditation: (1 John 1:5-10)

“5 This is the message we have heard from him and declare to you: God is light; in him, there is no darkness at all. 6 If we claim to have fellowship with him and yet walk in the darkness, we lie and do not live out the truth. 7 But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus, his Son, purifies us from all sin. 8 If we claim to be without sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. 9 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness. 10 If we claim we have not sinned, we make him out to be a liar, and his word is not in us.”

Dear friends in Christ, As we enter into the Precious Blood Novena, these verses offer us profound insights into the transformative power of Christ’s blood and the path to forgiveness and reconciliation with God. During the Precious Blood Novena, let us reflect on these verses and embrace the cleansing and transformative power of the Blood of Jesus. May we walk in the light, acknowledging our need for forgiveness, and humbly seek God’s mercy through perfect contrition and the sacrament of confession Through the Precious Blood, may we find renewal, reconciliation, and deeper fellowship with our loving and forgiving God.

Concluding Prayer
Lord Jesus Christ, on this second day of the Novena to Your Most Precious Blood, we thank You for the gift of Your mercy that purifies us from all unrighteousness. May Your Precious Blood cleanse our hearts, transforming us into vessels of Your love and compassion for others. As we journey through this Novena, draw us closer to You and help us to live as children of the light, walking in the truth of Your Gospel. We ask this through the intercession of Mary, our Mother, and all the saints. Amen.
