POWERFUL NOVENA TO THE PRECIOUS BLOOD OF JESUS: DAY 3

INTRODUCTION: The veneration of the Precious Blood of Our Divine Saviour dates back to the time of the Passion when it was shed. It is rooted in the fundamental doctrine of the Incarnation, which teaches that the Second Person of the Blessed Trinity assumed a human nature, uniting it with His divine nature in what is known as the hypostatic union. Thus, every aspect of Christ’s human nature, including His Precious Blood, is inseparably united with the second divine Person. Consequently, the Precious Blood is worthy of the same adoration, known as Latria, that is given to God Himself. This devotion to the Precious Blood is not reliant on private revelations but finds its firm foundation in the deposit of the Faith. Moving into more recent times, St. Gaspar Buffalo, the founder of the Congregation of the Precious Blood of Jesus Christ, played a significant role in promoting devotion to the Precious Blood. During Pope Pius IX’s exile from Rome in 1849, his companion, Don Giovanni Merlini, the third general of the Congregation, suggested that if the Pope were to regain the papal territory, he should make a vow to extend the Feast of the Precious Blood to the entire Church. This Feast had already been celebrated by the Fathers of the Most Precious Blood on the Friday after the Fourth Sunday of Lent. Ultimately, it was Pope Pius IX who officially instituted a special feast in honor of the Precious Blood. Later, Pope St. Pius X moved the feast from the first Sunday of July to July 1st. Finally, in commemoration of the 19th centennial of the mystery of the Redemption, Pope Pius XI elevated the rank of the feast day. This highlights the enduring significance and importance of devotion to the Precious Blood throughout the history of the Church.

Day 3

Opening Prayer: Heavenly Father, as we gather on this third day of the Novena to the Most Precious Blood, we contemplate the infinite love and sacrifice of Your Son, Jesus Christ. Through His Precious Blood, we find hope and healing for our wounded souls. We come before You with hearts open to receive Your abundant grace and to be transformed by the power of Your Son’s Blood (State your intentions). May our devotion to His Precious Blood deepen each day as we meditate on the profound mystery of His love for us. We ask for the intercession of the Blessed Virgin Mary and all the saints to guide us on this journey. Amen.

Scriptural Reading/Meditation: (Ephesians 1:3-10)

“3 Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us in the heavenly realms with every spiritual blessing in Christ. 4 For he chose us in him before the creation of the world to be holy and blameless in his sight. In love 5 he predestined us for adoption to sonship through Jesus Christ, in accordance with his pleasure and will— 6 to the praise of his glorious grace, which he has freely given us in the One he loves. 7 In him, we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, in accordance with the riches of God’s grace 8 that he lavished on us. With all wisdom and understanding, 9 he made known to us the mystery of his will according to his good pleasure, which he purposed in Christ, 10 to be put into effect when the times reach their fulfillment—to bring unity to all things in heaven and on earth under Christ.”

The Word of the Lord…

During the Precious Blood Novena, let us meditate on the immeasurable love and grace of God displayed through the sacrifice of Jesus. We are chosen, predestined, and adopted as His beloved children. The Blood of Christ redeems us, bringing us forgiveness and cleansing from sin. God’s ultimate purpose, revealed in Christ, is to unite all things under His lordship. In light of these profound truths, may our hearts overflow with gratitude and praise as we contemplate the significance of the Precious Blood in our lives. Let us seek a deeper understanding of God’s will and purpose for us, and may the Blood of Christ continually draw us closer to our Heavenly Father, transforming us to live in holiness and unity with Him.

Concluding Prayer
Lord Jesus Christ, on this third day of the Novena, we reflect on the riches of Your grace and the redemption You have won for us through Your Precious Blood. Open our hearts to the fullness of Your love, that we may become instruments of Your peace and reconciliation in the world. As we seek to imitate Your self-giving, help us to embrace the crosses and challenges of our lives with patience and courage, knowing that Your Blood has conquered sin and death. We entrust our prayers to the intercession of Mary, our Mother, and all the saints, as we unite ourselves to Your Precious Blood, our eternal source of hope and salvation. Amen.
