POWERFUL NOVENA TO THE PRECIOUS BLOOD OF JESUS: DAY 4

INTRODUCTION: The veneration of the Precious Blood of Our Divine Saviour dates back to the time of the Passion when it was shed. It is rooted in the fundamental doctrine of the Incarnation, which teaches that the Second Person of the Blessed Trinity assumed a human nature, uniting it with His divine nature in what is known as the hypostatic union. Thus, every aspect of Christ’s human nature, including His Precious Blood, is inseparably united with the second divine Person. Consequently, the Precious Blood is worthy of the same adoration, known as Latria, that is given to God Himself. This devotion to the Precious Blood is not reliant on private revelations but finds its firm foundation in the deposit of the Faith. Moving into more recent times, St. Gaspar Buffalo, the founder of the Congregation of the Precious Blood of Jesus Christ, played a significant role in promoting devotion to the Precious Blood. During Pope Pius IX’s exile from Rome in 1849, his companion, Don Giovanni Merlini, the third general of the Congregation, suggested that if the Pope were to regain the papal territory, he should make a vow to extend the Feast of the Precious Blood to the entire Church. This Feast had already been celebrated by the Fathers of the Most Precious Blood on the Friday after the Fourth Sunday of Lent. Ultimately, it was Pope Pius IX who officially instituted a special feast in honor of the Precious Blood. Later, Pope St. Pius X moved the feast from the first Sunday of July to July 1st. Finally, in commemoration of the 19th centennial of the mystery of the Redemption, Pope Pius XI elevated the rank of the feast day. This highlights the enduring significance and importance of devotion to the Precious Blood throughout the history of the Church.

Day 4

Opening Prayer: Gracious Father, as we embark on the fourth day of the Novena to the Most Precious Blood, we come before You with hearts filled with gratitude for the gift of Your Son’s redeeming Blood. On this day, we seek to grow in our understanding of the profound sacrifice Jesus made for us on the cross. May His Precious Blood, poured out for the forgiveness of sins, bring us closer to You and grant us the grace of true contrition and repentance (State your intentions). Through the intercession of the Blessed Virgin Mary and all the saints, may this Novena deepen our love and devotion to Your Son and His Precious Blood. Amen.

Scriptural Reading/Meditation: (Colossians 1:15-23)

“15 The Son is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation. 16 For in him all things were created: things in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or powers or rulers or authorities; all things have been created through him and for him. 17 He is before all things, and in him, all things hold together. 18 And he is the head of the body, the church; he is the beginning and the firstborn from among the dead, so that in everything he might have the supremacy. 19 For God was pleased to have all his fullness dwell in him, 20 and through him to reconcile to himself all things, whether things on earth or things in heaven, by making peace through his blood, shed on the cross. 21 Once you were alienated from God and were enemies in your minds because of your evil behavior. 22 But now he has reconciled you by Christ’s physical body through death to present you holy in his sight, without blemish and free from accusation— 23 if you continue in your faith, established and firm, and do not move from the hope held out in the gospel. This is the gospel that you heard and that has been proclaimed to every creature under heaven, and of which I, Paul, have become a servant.”

The Word of the Lord…

During the Precious Blood Novena, let us contemplate the greatness of Christ as the one who holds all things together and the reconciler of all creation through His sacrifice on the cross. His Precious Blood brings peace and restoration, transforming our lives from alienation and sin to holiness and reconciliation with God. May we remain steadfast in faith and hope, embracing the Gospel message, and allowing the power of Christ’s Precious Blood to renew us and lead us into a deeper relationship with our Creator.

Concluding Prayer
Lord Jesus Christ, on this fourth day of the Novena, we contemplate the mystery of Your divine presence in our lives. Your Precious Blood is the bridge that reconciles us to the Father and restores our broken relationship with Him. As we ponder this wondrous truth, may we never take for granted the price You paid for our redemption. Strengthen our faith and grant us the courage to witness to Your love in the world, drawing others closer to You through the power of Your Precious Blood. We seek the intercession of Mary, our Mother, and all the saints, as we continue to journey through this Novena, deepening our love for You and Your redeeming Blood. Amen.
