In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.
Our help is in the Name of the Lord, who made heaven and earth.
Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit.
As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen
Opening Prayer:
Lord Jesus Christ, Risen Savior and Source of all life, As we continue this novena in honour of Your Resurrection, We gather once again in prayer and thanksgiving. Pour out Your Spirit upon us, That we may enter more deeply into the mystery of Your victory over death And experience the fullness of Your saving power. May this time of prayer be a moment of grace and blessing for us, as we journey together through the joy of Easter (pause and pray for hope in times of uncertainty and add your private intention). We ask this through You, who lives and reigns with the Father and the Holy Spirit, God, forever and ever. Amen.
Scriptural Reading & Meditation
(Scripture Reading: John 20:19-23)
On the evening of that day, the first day of the week, the doors being shut where the disciples were, for fear of the Jews, Jesus came and stood among them and said to them, ‘Peace be with you.’ … When he had said this, he showed them his hands and his side. Then the disciples were glad when they saw the Lord. … Jesus said to them again, ‘Peace be with you. As the Father has sent me, even so I send you.’ … And when he had said this, he breathed on them, and said to them, ‘Receive the Holy Spirit. If you forgive the sins of any, they are forgiven; if you retain the sins of any, they are retained.’
The Gospel of the Lord…
Short Meditation
In the Gospel of John, we encounter the disciples gathered together in fear behind locked doors after the death of Jesus. Suddenly, Jesus appears in their midst and greets them with the words, “Peace be with you.” He shows them His hands and His side, and the disciples rejoice at seeing the Lord. Jesus then breathes on them and says, “Receive the Holy Spirit. If you forgive the sins of any, they are forgiven; if you retain the sins of any, they are retained.” This passage reminds us of the gift of peace that Christ offers us and the power of the Holy Spirit to forgive sins. As we meditate on this passage, let us open our hearts to receive the peace of Christ and the gift of His Spirit, so that we may be instruments of His mercy and reconciliation in the world.
